The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) has announced a new certification aimed at making it easier for security solution providers to help customers with HIPAA compliance.
The certification, which solution providers will achieve after completion of the CSF Ready Program, will give VARs a baseline from which to evaluate products in conjunction with the HITRUST Common Security Framework, and to determine whether they will meet HIPAA compliance requirements. The alliance said VARs will now have a more consistent basis from which to choose appropriate security technologies for customers who need to be HIPAA compliant.
The demand for this new HITRUST certification comes in the midst of healthcare industry overhaul as healthcare providers move toward an electronic-based health records system. Criteria for the program and its certification are being developed by a "steering committee" made up of security experts from a variety of security vendor companies.
There will also be a subcommittee established, which will work with the steering committee to ensure comprehensive guidance for the program.
